Alice Bootle, born 1997, is a Scottish artist based in the Highlands. She grew up in Carrbridge, a small village within The Cairngorm National Park in Scotland. The historical Packhorse Bridge surrounded by rivers, rock, mountains, lochs and enchanting woodlands made for a very active childhood, full of imagination and adventure. Her artwork is inspired by childhood nostalgia and the beauty and contemplation she finds in nature.
She incorporates techniques such as paper ripping, ink and water painting to mimic the rich, organic textures in nature and to create a sense of atmosphere, to draw the audience in, making them feel immersed in the landscape. She also combines writing in her paintings, intertwining memories to bring an element of storytelling to the artwork.
In high school Alice received awards for Advanced Higher Art and Higher Photography. She completed the portfolio course at Bridge House Art in Ullapool before enrolling at Inverness UHI to study Contemporary Art & Contextualized Practice BA (Hons).
Alice has exhibited work at An Talla Solais Gallery in Ullapool, The Pagoda in Grantown-on-Spey, The Breakout Gallery and outdoor exhibition space in Inverness College UHI.
In 2019 Alice exhibited her ‘Childhood Reflections’ collection in the End of Year Degree Show at Dickson’s Showroom, Inverness. Her upcoming Degree Show titled ‘111’ will be held at WASPS, Inverness Creative Academy and WASPS, Perth Creative Exchange.
